CN Tower EdgeWalk - August 2019
Happy Halloween! It's Mark Darden and today's post is not for the faint of heart. In August, I completed the CN Tower EdgeWalk for the second time. For those of you that don't know what the EdgeWalk is, it is hands free walk on a 5 foot ledge 356 meters / 1168 feet above the ground encircling the top of the CN Tower's main pod. It was a great way to start the morning and the best view of the city.
The day started at 7:30 am on Wednesday, August 7. I woke up pumped with adrenaline knowing that I would on “top of the world” in about 2 hours. After arriving at the CN Tower at 8:30, I anxiously waited outside base camp to be briefed on the EdgeWalk. Our group consisted of two men, two women and our guide. One of members in our group mentioned that she was doing the EdgeWalk to conquer her fear of heights. We took the elevator up to the ledge and went over some last minute safety tips. We got attached to the overhead railing that encircles main pod and walked outside onto the ledge. We had a slight issue as our comrade who was trying to conquer her fear became overwhelmed by the height and asked to go back down to base camp.
After going back inside to unattached our group member from the overhead railing, we walked back out to the ledge to begin the walk. We started on the west side of the CN Tower overlooking the Rogers Centre and towards Billy Bishop Airport. The walked continued as we faced south overlooking Lake Ontario and participated in a few activities such as “Toes over Toronto”. Facing east, we participated in more activities and learned about some the landmarks in Downtown Toronto such as Union Station. We arrived on the north side of the tower, each group member took individual photos doing various poses. We ended the walk back on the west side of tower and hung out over the ledge until it was time to head back inside. All in all, it was a great day to participate in the EdgeWalk.
Thanks for reading, check out the photos and video, and remember to live for the experience.
